A marriage permit may be required if one of the partners wishing to marry in Estonia is not a resident. When entering into a marriage with a foreigner, the list of documents required for filing an application with the registry office differs from the standard one.
The document serving as the basis for entering into marriage with a foreigner is a certificate of legal capacity to enter into marriage, which is evidence that the foreign partner has no obstacles to marriage.
